Figure Drawing Canceled 4/3/14 Due to Tornadoes, Hail

The meteorologists would have us believe that this afternoon and evening will play host to baseball sized hail and tornadoes. I can't think of a better reason not to hang out in a window-covered box 6 stories in the sky, can you?

Sorry for the late notice! We'll be back to our regular schedule next week.

Figure Drawing Returns Feb. 13th

Friends, artists, countrymen,
I'm happy to announce the The Art Department KCMO will be resuming our open figure drawing sessions Thursday, February 13th. Sessions will be every Thursday thereafter from 6-9pm and are only $6 to attend. We have plenty of easels, drawing horses and chairs, so all you need to bring is $6 and the drawing materials of your choice!
It's a lot of fun and we hope to have you join us!

Winter Update

Hello Friends,
I'm sad to say that our figure sessions have ended for the year. We're in full finals crunch here at The Art Department KCMO, so all our time and energy is going into wrapping up the semester. Don't look so glum, dearest reader, our figure sessions will return again in February! Watch this blog or The Art Department's Facebook page for updates as we get closer to that magical time.

I understand this is tough. You just haven't gotten enough of the cool kids here at TAD KCMO. Here's what's great: You've got one more chance to see our shining faces in 2013. Our friend and studiomate, Dan Vanderhoof is having a show of some recent work Saturday, December 14th from 7-9pm at 1212 West 8th St. Come hang out and see some cool art! Bring giant wads of cash, too. You'll want to get in at the ground floor in collecting the work of young Mr. Vanderhoof. This is a one-night-only kind of deal, so don't rest on your laurels.

That's the news from the 6th floor of the Hobbs, I'll see you in 2014 if not Saturday!

We have all the makings of a fun night of drawing and painting: Fun music, fun costumes, fun props, fun colored lighting. We will be doing 2 or 3 long poses over the course of 3 hours, so you can paint if you'd like.

Come join us!

Sadly, the figure session for tonight will be canceled. Apologies for the late notice, friends!

We will also not be having a drawing session next Thursday, as it is Halloween and we have ghoulish deeds to attend to.

Figure Sessions Wrapping Up for the Spring and Spectrum Live

Hi everyone,
It's your fearless studio leader checking in with a long overdue update on what's going on here at the KCMO studio. Let's get to the firstly's first:

There will not be a figure drawing session this Saturday, May 18th.

Sad, I know, but wait! Before you weep those bitter tears of artistic withdrawal, allow me to tell you why we aren't figure drawing this Saturday. We'll all be happily buzzing about Bartle Hall, attending Spectrum Fantastic Art Live. Spectrum Live is an amazing convention because it's totally artist-centric. Last year I was able to waltz from table to table and have real conversations with really great artists for real.

At $40 a pop for a 3-day pass, it's a great deal if you're an artist or appreciator of art, not to mention that if you're attending the show you can join us Friday night from 10pm to 1am for a late-night figure drawing party. It was a ton of fun last year and should be just as bangin' this year. You can find more info about the how's, when's, and where's here at Spectrum Fantastic Art Live's info page.

May 20th will be our last figure session for the spring, as we prepare to welcome a new batch of students for our summer workshops. Have no fear, though, public figure sessions will return in the fall bigger and better than ever! Pigs may not be able to fly, but we can at least toss them lil' squealers.
