Figure Sessions Wrapping Up for the Spring and Spectrum Live

Hi everyone,
It's your fearless studio leader checking in with a long overdue update on what's going on here at the KCMO studio. Let's get to the firstly's first:

There will not be a figure drawing session this Saturday, May 18th.

Sad, I know, but wait! Before you weep those bitter tears of artistic withdrawal, allow me to tell you why we aren't figure drawing this Saturday. We'll all be happily buzzing about Bartle Hall, attending Spectrum Fantastic Art Live. Spectrum Live is an amazing convention because it's totally artist-centric. Last year I was able to waltz from table to table and have real conversations with really great artists for real.

At $40 a pop for a 3-day pass, it's a great deal if you're an artist or appreciator of art, not to mention that if you're attending the show you can join us Friday night from 10pm to 1am for a late-night figure drawing party. It was a ton of fun last year and should be just as bangin' this year. You can find more info about the how's, when's, and where's here at Spectrum Fantastic Art Live's info page.

May 20th will be our last figure session for the spring, as we prepare to welcome a new batch of students for our summer workshops. Have no fear, though, public figure sessions will return in the fall bigger and better than ever! Pigs may not be able to fly, but we can at least toss them lil' squealers.

A Tasty Start to the New Semester

I don't mean to brag or anything, but we have a really awesome crew here at the Kansas City studio. Luke Beaber, one of those aforementioned awesome studio members, surprised us all yesterday with three mountains of delicious homemade cookies and some milk to wash them down with. He even made mound of vegan cookies and brought soy milk, to make sure that everyone in the studio had a sweet start to the semester.

How cool is that? It's things this that make me really glad to be a part of this group and thankful for folk like Luke that go an extra step to make this a community. Thanks Luke!

KCMO Holiday Food Drive

Here is the beginning of our Food Collection Drive for the KCMO studio!

A humble cardboard box spray painted GOLD will certainly get folks in the mood, wouldn't you think?

We are collecting food for people during the holiday season. Did I say people? I meant to say "food for anything:" people, cats, rabbits, wolverines, etc. I think the preponderance of food items will be for people; judging from our start.

If you can place an item in the box over the next couple of weeks, that would be helpful.

If anyone is in need of something, please take it from the box with our best wishes.

This is all about helping people, who ever and where ever they are, near and far.

Fall Break

The leaves have changed, there is a nip in the air, and the distant smell of cooked fowl wafts through the streets. It  all can mean only one thing: Fall break is upon us! We're all headed off to eat monstrous meals with our next of kin, which means that figure drawing will be postponed until December 1st.

Enjoy your pumpkin pie, we hope to see you at figure drawing again in December!

Figure Drawing Canceled 11/12/12

Unfortunately tonight's figure drawing session will not be held due to last-minute model cancelation. I apologize for the late notice and any inconvenience this may cause.

Time to Light the Lights

It's that time again. That's right, the semi-annual open house at the Hobbs Building here in the West Bottoms. Friday, October 19th, from 6-10pm, and Saturday, October 20th, from 12-4pm. We'll have student work up, as well as stuff from our instructors here at the Art Department. You should come by and say "hello". Or just "hi", if you're pressed for time. You could even sneak in, look at the art, and sneak out again without talking to us at all. But we'd really prefer either of the first two options.
